PART 2 : THE ROOM THAT NEVER EXISTED

Arthur stared at the scarf on the marble floor.

His face went pale.

Lily stopped crying for one second.

Then she whispered:

“That’s my mom’s scarf…”

Officer Stone tightened his grip on her shoulder.

“Take her outside,” he ordered.

But Arthur suddenly stepped in front of him.

“No.”

The entire lobby froze.

Officer Stone’s eyes narrowed.

Arthur’s hands were shaking as he looked toward the elevator.

“That elevator just came from the 18th floor.”

The receptionist behind the desk whispered:

“But the 18th floor is closed…”

Lily turned to her.

“My mom said we were in room 1807.”

Arthur’s eyes filled with terror.

“There is no room 1807.”

The lobby went dead silent.

Then the elevator lights flickered.

Twice.

A soft ding echoed through the lobby again.

The doors began to close.

But before they shut completely…

something fell from inside.

A hotel key card.

Arthur slowly picked it up.

The number printed on it was:

1807.

His breathing stopped.

Officer Stone’s jaw tightened.

“That’s impossible,” Arthur whispered.

Lily suddenly screamed:

“That’s the room my mom took me to!”

Arthur turned the key card over.

On the back, written in red lipstick, were four words:

DON’T TRUST THE OFFICER.

Arthur looked up slowly.

Officer Stone’s hand moved toward his radio.

But Lily saw something else.

A fresh scratch on Officer Stone’s wrist.

The same silver bracelet her mom always wore…

was hanging from his pocket.

Lily’s voice broke.

“Where is my mother?”

Officer Stone leaned down close to her face and whispered:

“You should have stayed asleep.”

Then every light in the lobby went out.
