PART 2 — THE JET WAS NEVER AN ESCAPE
The door of the private jet closed behind Clara with a soft metallic click.
Outside, Richard stood frozen on the rain-soaked tarmac.
Vanessa was still on her knees, her dark red dress soaked through, her hands trembling against the wet ground.
“Richard…” she whispered, her voice breaking. “Do something.”
But Richard couldn’t move.
Because the moment Clara disappeared inside that plane, his phone began to ring.
Not once.
Not twice.
Every board member.
Every investor.
Every lawyer connected to the Harrington empire.
His face went pale.
He answered the first call with shaking fingers.
“Richard,” a cold male voice said, “where is your wife?”
Richard swallowed hard.
“She’s leaving.”
There was a silence on the other end.
Then the voice said the sentence that drained the last color from his face.
“Then you have already lost control of the company.”
Vanessa looked up sharply.
“What does that mean?” she demanded.
Richard didn’t answer.
Inside the jet, Clara sat alone beneath the soft golden cabin lights. Her hand rested protectively over her pregnant belly. Her face was calm, but her eyes were red from all the tears she had refused to cry in front of him.
A flight attendant approached quietly.
“Mrs. Harrington… your lawyer is on the secure line.”
Clara nodded.
The screen across from her lit up.
An older woman in a black suit appeared, holding a folder thick with documents.
“Clara,” the lawyer said, “the board has received everything.”
Clara closed her eyes for one second.
Everything.
The hotel receipts.
The secret apartment lease.
The offshore transfers.
The forged signature attempts.
And the recording.
The recording that proved Richard’s affair was not the real betrayal.
It was only the surface.
Three weeks earlier, Clara had heard Vanessa laughing in Richard’s office.
Not crying.
Not apologizing.
Laughing.
Clara had been standing outside the door, one hand on her stomach, ready to tell her husband the baby had kicked for the first time.
Then she heard Vanessa say:
“Once she gives birth, she’ll be weak. You can make the board believe she’s unstable. You’ll get temporary control of her shares.”
Richard hadn’t stopped her.
He hadn’t sounded shocked.
He had simply said:
“Not until she signs the final trust papers.”
That was the moment Clara stopped being a wife.
And became evidence.
Back on the tarmac, Richard’s phone slipped lower in his hand.
Vanessa grabbed his sleeve.
“Richard, tell me what’s happening.”
He turned toward her slowly.
“You told me she only knew about us.”
Vanessa’s eyes flickered.
Richard stepped closer.
“What else did she hear?”
Vanessa’s lips parted, but no words came out.
That silence answered everything.
The private jet engines began to roar.
Richard suddenly ran toward the stairs.
“CLARA!” he shouted over the rain. “Open the door!”
Inside the plane, Clara heard him.
Her fingers tightened around the silver clutch.
The lawyer on screen leaned forward.
“You don’t have to look back.”
Clara’s voice was quiet.
“I already did.”
The flight attendant placed a small envelope on the table beside her.
“Mrs. Harrington, this was delivered just before departure.”
Clara stared at it.
No return name.
Only one line written across the front:
OPEN BEFORE HE DOES.
Her breath caught.
For the first time that night, fear crossed her face.
Outside, Richard received another message.
This one was not from the board.
It was from his private bank.
ACCOUNT ACCESS SUSPENDED.
Then another.
EMERGENCY BOARD VOTE INITIATED.
Then one final message from Clara’s lawyer.
Your wife did not leave you, Mr. Harrington. She removed you.
Richard looked up at the jet.
The stairs were being lifted.
Vanessa scrambled to her feet, panic twisting her face.
“She can’t do this!” she screamed. “Richard, she can’t take everything!”
That was when Richard finally understood.
Vanessa had never been begging him to save the marriage.
She was begging him to save the money.
Inside the jet, Clara slowly opened the mysterious envelope.
There was only one photograph inside.
A photo of Richard and Vanessa…
standing outside Clara’s private doctor’s office.
On the back, someone had written:
They were not just planning to take your company. They were planning to take your baby.
Clara’s hand flew to her stomach.
The jet began moving.
And for the first time since she stepped onto the plane…
Clara whispered:
“Turn on the security feed.”
The screen changed.
A live camera showed Richard and Vanessa on the runway.
Vanessa was yelling now, pointing at the jet, her face twisted with rage.
Then she said the sentence Clara had been waiting for.
“She was supposed to sign before she found out!”
Richard turned toward her in horror.
“What did you just say?”
Vanessa froze.
And inside the jet, Clara’s lawyer smiled coldly.
“Recorded,” she said.
Clara leaned back in her seat, one hand over her unborn child.
Outside, the plane lifted into the dusk.
Richard stood in the rain, ruined before he even knew how deeply.
But as the jet disappeared into the clouds…
Clara opened the second folded paper from the envelope.
Her face went completely still.
Because the final line was not about Richard.
May you like
It was about someone much more dangerous.
“Your mother-in-law ordered everything.”
