Part 3: The Hostile Takeover

The penthouse suite of the Omni Hotel smelled of stale champagne and expensive cigars. When the elevator doors opened, I held Sofia’s arm tightly. She was wearing a simple black dress, her bruises partially covered by makeup, but her posture was rigid with fear.

Alexander was already inside, sitting calmly in one of the plush armchair, a thick file resting on his lap. Marco, a massive man in a tailored suit who looked more like a hitman than an accountant, stood by the door.

Carmen and Javier were sitting on the velvet sofa, looking completely unraveled. Javier’s designer suit was rumpled, and he was sweating profusely. Carmen’s usual arrogant sneer was gone, replaced by a pale, panicked expression.

"What is the meaning of this?" Carmen shrieked as we walked in. "Who are you? The valet took our cars, the bank is freezing our accounts! I'm calling the police!"

Alexander didn't blink. He opened the file. "Call them. Please. We can discuss the felony assault charges against you and your friends. I have the hotel security footage of the six women entering the room, and Sofia's medical report from a private physician detailing the blunt force trauma."

Javier swallowed hard, his eyes darting to Sofia. "Sofia, baby, please... tell him this is a misunderstanding. My mother just got a little too passionate about family traditions."

"Shut your mouth," Alexander said, his voice dropping to a terrifying register. Javier visibly flinched.

Alexander tossed a stack of documents onto the glass coffee table. "You wanted a business merger, Carmen. Let's merge."

Carmen stared at the papers, her hands trembling. "What is this?"

"This is the immediate liquidation of Robles & Associates, and the foreclosure of all three of your restaurant locations," Alexander explained smoothly. "I bought your debt this morning. You owe my firm fourteen million dollars, payable immediately."

"Fourteen million?" Javier gasped, his face turning gray. "We don't have that kind of liquidity! We'd be ruined!"

"I know," Alexander said coldly. "However, I am willing to offer a settlement."

He slid a single sheet of paper across the table. It was an annulment agreement, completely absolving Sofia of any legal ties to the Robles family. But that wasn't all.

"You will sign the annulment. Furthermore, Carmen, you will sign over the deed to your family estate in Preston Hollow to a trust in Sofia's name as compensation for the physical and emotional damages she sustained. You will vacate the property by Friday."

Carmen gasped, clutching her chest. "My house? You can't take my home! This is extortion!"

"Extortion?" Alexander tilted his head, a dark, humorless smile touching his lips. "No, Carmen. Extortion is locking a terrified girl in a room and beating her to steal her property. This is simply the cost of doing business."

He leaned forward, the terrifying aura of the phantom billionaire fully descending upon the room. "Sign the papers, and I let you walk away with whatever cash you have in your personal accounts. Refuse, and I will not only bankrupt you, but I will hand the assault footage to the District Attorney, and I will ensure Javier is disbarred before the end of the month. Your choice."

The silence in the room was absolute. Carmen looked at her son, then at me, her eyes filled with a desperate, pathetic rage. She reached for the pen with a shaking hand and signed the papers. Javier quickly followed suit.

Alexander picked up the documents, slipping them back into the file. He stood up, looking down at the two people who had thought they were untouchable.

"You should have left her condo alone," Alexander said softly.

He walked over to Sofia, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Let's go home, baby girl."

We left them sitting in the ruins of their manufactured empire. As the elevator doors closed, shielding us from the sight of Carmen sobbing into her hands, Sofia leaned her head against her father's arm. For the first time since the wedding, she let out a long, shuddering breath, finally safe in the knowledge that the monsters had been slain
