Chapter 6 - A Father’s Promise

The warehouse erupted into chaos.
Adrian’s security team entered from three different doors, moving with terrifying speed. Marcus Cole led the first group. Within seconds, Victor’s guards were disarmed or forced to the ground.
Victor grabbed Monica by the hair and pulled her in front of him.
A gun pressed against her temple.
“Stop!” he shouted.
Everyone froze.
Adrian stepped from the darkness.
He wore a black coat over a white shirt. There was no tie. No polished public smile. His face was exhausted, his eyes red from sleepless nights.
But when he looked at Victor, Monica saw something colder than anger.
“You hurt Lena,” Adrian said.
Victor laughed softly. “You have no proof.”
“I have Claire.”
“Claire is a frightened woman with a criminal record.”
“I have your calls. Your payments. Your driver.”
Victor’s smile weakened.
Adrian took one slow step forward.
“And I have my son.”
Victor’s expression changed.
Only for a second.
But Monica saw it.
“You found him?” he asked.
Adrian’s voice shook, just slightly. “He’s alive.”
Victor tightened his grip on Monica.
“Then you’re still weak.”
“No,” Adrian said. “I’m finally awake.”
A shot rang out.
Not from Adrian.
Claire had kicked one of the fallen guards’ guns toward Monica. Monica dropped her weight suddenly, driving her heel down on Victor’s foot. He cursed, the gun shifted, and Adrian’s team moved.
Marcus fired once.
Victor’s gun flew from his hand.
Monica fell hard to the floor.
Two men dragged Victor back as he screamed.
“You think you’ve won?” Victor shouted at Adrian. “The board will still destroy you! The city will still believe me!”
Adrian knelt beside Monica and cut her restraints.
“Can you stand?” he asked.
She nodded, though her legs trembled.
“Where are my daughters?” she asked immediately.
Adrian looked at Claire.
“She took them to a safe place,” Claire said. “I hope.”
Monica gripped Adrian’s sleeve.
“You need to find them. They have your baby.”
“I know.”
“He was cold when they found him. He was starving. They carried him home like he was theirs.”
Adrian’s eyes filled.
For a moment, he looked less like a billionaire and more like a father who had almost lost everything.
“I will thank them for the rest of my life,” he said.
But then Marcus’s phone rang.
His expression darkened as he listened.
“What happened?” Adrian asked.
Marcus looked at Monica.
“Victor’s people found the apartment building where Claire hid the girls.”
Monica stopped breathing.
“And?”
May you like
“The building is on fire.”
