PART 2: THE SINGLE MOTHER THEY TRIED TO FIRE

# PART 2: THE SINGLE MOTHER THEY TRIED TO FIRE

Emma had worked at Riverside Grill for almost six years.

Every day she arrived before sunrise.

Every day she left after dark.

And every day she smiled through the exhaustion.

As a single mother, she didn't have a choice.

Her nine-year-old son, Noah, was the center of her world.

That evening happened to be Emma's birthday.

She wasn't expecting gifts.

She wasn't expecting a celebration.

She was simply hoping to finish her shift and go home.

What she didn't know was that Noah had been planning a surprise for weeks.

For three straight weeks, he spent every afternoon making a birthday card by hand.

Cutting paper.

Drawing pictures.

Writing messages.

Redoing mistakes.

He wanted it to be perfect.

Just before dinner rush, Noah entered the restaurant carrying the card proudly in both hands.

He spotted his mother immediately.

A huge smile spread across his face.

But before he could reach her...

A man stood up.

A wealthy customer sitting near the center of the restaurant.

His expensive watch probably cost more than Emma earned in a year.

He pointed directly at her.

"That's her!"

The entire restaurant fell silent.

Conversations stopped.

Customers turned around.

The manager rushed over.

Emma's face immediately lost its color.

She recognized the man.

A week earlier, he had complained about poor service during a crowded evening.

Even though the mistake wasn't hers.

Apparently he hadn't forgotten.

"I want her fired," he said loudly.

"Immediately."

The manager hesitated for only a second.

Then nodded.

No questions.

No investigation.

No defense.

He simply printed a termination form.

And handed it to Emma.

Noah's smile disappeared.

His eyes filled with tears.

"Mom?"

Emma couldn't even look at him.

Her hands shook as she reached for the paper.

Years of hard work.

Gone in seconds.

Then something unexpected happened.

The wealthy customer noticed the birthday card.

He reached out and took it from Noah.

At first he looked annoyed.

Then his eyes stopped on a small drawing in one corner.

His expression changed.

Completely.

He stared at it.

Again.

And again.

The restaurant grew silent.

Finally, he looked directly at Noah.

"Where did you get this?"

Noah blinked.

"I drew it."

The man's hand began shaking.

The card slipped from his fingers.

And for the first time all night...

May you like

He looked terrified.

To be continued...
